How do trailing stops work?
A trailing stop is a Stop Loss that follows the market in your favour but never moves against you. You set a distance (in points) on an open position, and as the price moves in your direction the platform automatically walks your Stop Loss along at that fixed distance, locking in more of your gain; if the price then reverses by the trailing distance, the position closes. The trailing runs server-side, so it keeps working even if your browser is closed. Set it from the position's controls in the Positions panel, and set the distance to 0 (or clear it) to turn it off. Choose a distance wide enough that normal price noise doesn't stop you out too early.
- 1Open the Positions panel and find the position you want to protect.
- 2Set a trailing distance in points on that position.
- 3The platform trails your Stop Loss automatically as the price moves in your favour.
- 4To remove it, set the trailing distance back to off.
